Alternate Route Information
This route has a raised rail road crossing. Take exit 262 for county route 255. Turn left off the ramp, headed north on route 255. You’ll be on route 255 for 2.9 miles until you come to the flashing red light/stop sign at route 90. Shortly before you get to the flashing red light, you’ll cross over the raised rail road crossing. You can see where low trailers have scraped going across this rail road crossing*. Turn right at the flashing red light onto route 90. It is not marked well- on the south east corner of the intersection, there is an Archie’s Subs and on the north east corner of the intersection there is Nichol’s Real Estate. You’ll take route 90 14.2 miles back to the ramp for I 10 east- it is a right turn onto a turnaround ramp. 5.5 miles before you get to I 10 you will go through a Florida Department of Agriculture inspection point. They will want to see your bills. There are no scales there and there is no weigh station on route 90 on this route.
If you want to avoid the raised rail road crossing, you can exit a couple of exits earlier at exit 251 for route 14. Turn left onto route 14 east and go 2.6 miles until you come to the flashing yellow light in Madison for the truck route. Don’t stay straight on route 14- turn right onto the truck route. The truck route will curve you around for 1.1 miles until you come to route 53. Turn left onto route 53 and go 1.2 miles to the light at route 90. There is a McDonalds on the south east corner and a Shell gas station on the north west corner. Turn right onto route 90 east. You’ll take route 90 22 miles back to I 10 east. After you are on route 90 for 2 miles you will see the junction with route 6. You stay straight. Also- be aware of the Florida Department of Agriculture inspection point 5.5 miles before you get to I 10.
