Alternate Route Information
This is not a recommended route due to sections of roadway that are very skinny and curvy. Take exit 175 off I 75. Turn right off the ramp (you will go past the Pilot on the west side of the freeway) and go 1.7 miles to the stop sign. Turn right at the stop sign- this is route 338. There is a sign indicating that if you turn right you are headed “to 42.” You will go 2.6 miles and the road will dead end onto route 42 and route 127 (they are junctioned here). You will turn left on route 42/127. You will be on route 42/127 for 3.4 miles until you come to the left turn onto route 14. There is no stop sign here- just a small sign before you get to the turn that says “jct 14.” Turn left on route 14. Route 14 is the main reason this route is not recommended- 14 is very skinny, curvy, and hilly- if two trucks pass eachother on route 14, they may not be able to clear eachother’s mirrors. You will be on route 14 for 2.2 miles before you come to the ramp for I 71 southbound. This puts you out at exit 72 on I 71. The entire route takes you through country-residential areas. These are not neighborhoods but there are some high-dollar residences.
Another option which is not recommended due to skinny roads and multiple NO TRUCK signs that are clearly marked is to continue south on I 75 past the I 71 turn off. Go to exit 171 for the Flying J and turn right. You’ll go .1 miles to the light in front of the Flying J and turn left. You’ll pass the J, the other truck services and the Blue Beacon truck wash. There are signs stating ALL THROUGH TRUCKS PROHIBITED. You’ll go a total of 4.3 miles on curvy roads with low hanging trees to the town of Eads. There will be a stop sign with a flashing red light. Turn right. This is the town of Eads. You’ll be on route 14 west and there are signs “to I 71″ along this route. There are many NO TRUCKS and NO SEMI TRUCKS signs in parking lots in the town of Eads (but not on the actual roadway). You’ll continue straight at the flashing yellow light following route 14 (not route 16) and you’ll go about 2 miles to the ramp for I 71 south.
